A short time ago the Jewish Family Service of Buffalo, NY put smiles on the children of refugees in Western NY.
I saw two busloads of children file out as I pulled up to Burlington Store on Walden Avenue in Cheektowaga. Met by staff and volunteers, the children were guided through the department store to get supplies for the new school year. Proud parents watched as their children tried on new shoes, clothing and backpacks.
Morgan Awner, a JFS volunteer at the event, summed up the experience perfectly: “Coming together to support those in need brings meaning and happiness to us all.”
For decades, Jewish Family Service has exemplified our inherent Jewish values of caring for those in need. Thank you to JFS President and CEO Marlene Schillinger, New Americans Director Maria Domingo, and the rest of the staff of JFS for showing us the true meaning of kindness.
